So why start now? Why start another blog in a world of blogging that is dense with those that seem to have more skills, more followers, and more experience? After all it's been almost a decade since I sat down and wrote code and put my thoughts into the digital universe. A lot has changed but then again, so have I. I've decided to once again throw my hat in the ring and here is why.
I decided to become a teacher using an alternative certification program. I already had a degree and I couldn't afford starting over. I had worked in a school for two years and I felt like I had a handle of teaching without having to get a degree to do it. So, once a week classes and online modules for twelve weeks and boom, I had a teacher certification. I got my first teaching job and quickly realized I was out of my league. There was more to teaching than I ever thought and working in the school that was in, there was a lack of resources and professional development to help me.
So where did I turn? The internet of course! And what did I find? Pinterest, Teacher Blogs, and Teachers Pay Teachers. It was a lot to navigate. A lot to take in. My first two years teaching I spent well over $2000.00 setting up my classroom and even more money buying resources to support it. Some of it has been great investments, others have been epic Pinterest fails.
I am writing this blog to walk you through my journey navigating the digital era of teaching. My first series, starting in July of 2016 will be my First Year Teacher Survival Series. I will give you my tips, tricks, and reccomendations for how to set up, organize, and prepare your classroom, books I find helpful, products I can't live without on Teachers Pay Teachers and just give you some Dos and Don'ts that I have found myself falling into as well as my fellow first year teacher friends.
I hope you stick around. New to teaching or Veteran of 20 years, anyone can read. See you in July!
